Xiaomi’s unveiled two new kid-oriented smartwatches today with large AMOLED screens, 4G connectivity and swim-proofing up to 20M. The Mi Kids Watch 4 and 4 Pro can be pre-ordered now and will start shipping in 5 days.
The Xiaomi Mi Kids Watch 4 has a 1.78″ rectangular AMOLED screen with 368 x 448px resolution. It is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The watch is powered by the Qualcomm Wear 2500 platform. Various apps can be installed – chat apps, learning apps and so on.
There’s a 5MP camera above the screen, which can be used for video calls (and selfies too). Another 5MP camera points forward, so kids can snap photos with their watches.
The video calls are done over 4G, of course, voice-only VoLTE calls are also supported. Wi-Fi b/g/n is on board to save on data. The watch has an eSIM and supports all major Chinese carriers.
There’s no GPS on board, but the watch uses AI to calculate its position even indoors (e.g. in a mall).
The watch has NFC so it can be used to pay for China’s public transport. The 920mAh battery should last 8 days in standby.
The Xiaomi Mi Kids Watch 4 Pro features advanced dual-band GPS positioning (L1 + L5) for more accurate and reliable tracking. Also, it upgrades the “forward” camera to 8MP for better-quality photos.
