YouTube Originals Launches Star-Studded Slate of COVID-19 Content
Never has there been a better time to binge-watch your way through streaming video platforms. Thankfully, YouTube Originals has a new slate of projects to keep you entertained. The star-studded lineup—distance learning with Karlie Kloss and Ken Jeong; at-home creating with YUNGBLUD (pictured), and Joseph Gordon-Levitt hosting his own show—aims to “support, entertain, and educate viewers around the world.”
Also keep an eye out for content from some popular YouTubers, including “The Creator Games Presented by MrBeast” at 6 p.m. ET on April 26. The philanthropist will challenge some of the platform’s biggest stars to remotely go head-to-head in a series of stay-at-home games. Proceeds from the global live event will go to a COVID-19-related charity.
“YouTube’s greatest strength is its ability as a global platform to build community and connection among people from all walks of life,” Susanne Daniels, global head of original content for YouTube, said in a statement. “We’re working to develop exciting new original content that is relevant, useful, and entertaining in order to deepen those connections and give people an outlet to come together.”
Look for new programs rolling out over the next few months: Money Talks: Taxes (available now); Instant Influencer with James Charles beauty competition (April 24); #MoveWithMe global dance event (April 29); Celebrity Substitute (May 7); The Secret Life of Lele Pons (May 19); and many more. YouTube and YouTube Kids is also releasing several new family-friendly options, launching in May.
This news comes on the heels of the platform’s At Home #WithMe campaign encouraging the world to stay home and save lives; the movement features YouTube creators (Emma Chamberlain, Markiplier, The Dolan Twins), musicians (Sam Smith, Shawn Mendes), athletes (Venus Williams), and celebrities (Hailee Steinfeld).
