Weekly poll: Did Oppo hit the mark with Find X2 and Find X2 Pro?

Oppo restarted its flagship Find line last year with a phone that featured a motorized pop-up housing both front and rear cameras, plus a partnership with Lamborghini that gave us the first phone to support 50W fast charging.

This year’s phones have more conventional design, but the camera and charging are even more impressive. The Oppo Find X2 and X2 Pro return to the 1440p resolution, not seen on an Oppo phone since the Find 7.

And this year it’s an expansive 6.7” AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. The display supports HDR10+ (and cover 100% of DCI-P3) with peak HDR brightness reaching 1,200 nits.

The difference between the two models is that the Oppo Find X2 Pro has better camera hardware than the vanilla model. The main 48MP camera is based on a large Sony IMX689 1/1.4” sensor with Dual Native ISO, Omni-Directional PDAF and 12-bit True Capture.

Next up is another 48MP sensor for the ultrawide angle camera (120° FoV). It’s a 1/2” Sony IMX586 behind a bright f/2.2 aperture. This lens can autofocus with a minimum focus distance of 3cm, perfect for macro shots. Also, the EIS system has an Ultra Steady Video Mode Pro.

The second generation periscope telephoto lens promising 10x hybrid zoom and 60x digital zoom. It features a 13MP sensor and f/3.0 aperture. Like the main camera, this one features optical image stabilization.

The Oppo Find X2 has a triple camera that can do everything the Pro camera can, but with more modest hardware. The main camera still has a 48MP sensor, but it’s smaller (1/2” IMX586) and lacks the advanced Dual ISO and autofocus features. However, like the Pro model it does have Laser AF.

The ultra wide camera has a 12MP sensor (meaning no pixel binning) and a smaller 1/2.4” IMX708 sensor. It’s still autofocus-enabled and can shoot macros at 3cm distance, plus Ultra Steady Video Pro is supported.

The telephoto lens offers 5x hybrid and 20x digital zoom with its f/2.4 lens and 13MP image sensor. The 32MP selfie camera is identical on both phones and is situated inside a punch hole in the upper left corner of the display.

Now for the charging – both phones support 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 flash charging. The battery goes from 0% to essentially full in exactly 30% (the last few percent will be trickle charged, but they have no impact on battery endurance).

The battery capacity is effectively the same, 4,200mAh. The Pro has 60mAh more, but we assume this is more because of the different internal layout of the phone. The battery is split into two cells, this is how VOOC manages to hit those insane charging speeds.

The camera hardware on the Find X2 Pro is bulkier, meaning that the phone is thicker – 8.8mm vs. 8.0mm for the vanilla model. Note the two have different options for the back. The vanilla phone comes in Glass and Ceramic (which is a tad heavier).

The Pro model comes in Ceramic and Vegan Leather. As you’ll find in our hands-on review we love how the material feels. Do note that it makes the phone a further 0.7mm thicker, but we think it’s worth it.

The Oppo Find X2 duo is powered by a Snapdragon 865 chipset and features 5G connectivity. At this point you’re thinking “of course, it does”, this is the norm for 2020 flagships. RAM capacity is fixed at 12GB (Oppo used LPDDR5 chips).

The storage is another point of differentiation between the Pro and vanilla models – the Pro gets 512GB, twice the 256GB of the vanilla model. Both are fast UFS3.0, however (there’s no card slot for expansion).

It’s almost time to vote, we just need to go over the launch details first. The two phones will be available in a week. The Oppo Find X2 will cost €1,000, the Find X2 Pro will be €1,200. Well, what do you think?

Will you buy an Oppo Find X2, X2 Pro or neither?
