Week 28 in review: OnePlus Nord all but official, Snapdragon 865+ is here
The past week seemed all about OnePlus’ upcoming affordable smartphone. The OnePlus Nord leaked left and right and got its fair share of official teasers too.
We saw the Nord in renders, we saw its official cases, we got its price from a retail listing (around €475/$535), we got the full specs sheet (6.44-inch 90Hz AMOLED, Snapdragon 765G, dual selfie camera, quad main camera, 4,115mAh battery with 30W charging), and we got the date of unveil – July 21.
The Samsung Galaxy Note20+ (or Ultra, it’s not clear yet) was pictured in the wild, revealing a triple camera with what’s likely a main 108MP camera, an ultrawide unit and a periscope zoom camera. A pair of official renders of the Galaxy Note20 Ultra in Mystic Bronze showed the same camera setup. We also learned the Galaxy Note20′ S pen will double as a pointer on the device’ screen. The Samsung Galaxy Note20 series will become official on August 5.
We saw renders of the Google Pixel 5 and 5 XL. We can’t confirm their credibility at the moment, but if they prove correct, then Google’s Pixel 5 series will carry just two rear cameras, like the Pixel 4 lineup, and that will be a tough pill to swallow for the diminishing Pixel fanbase. The renders also portray a return to the physical fingerprint scanner.
Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 865+ – the first mobile chipset to surpass 3GHz clock speed. The new chip brings 10% boost in CPU and GPU speed, but again no built-in 5G modem and will instead require the external X55 modem.
Asus officially confirmed that the upcoming ROG Phone 3, which will become official on July 22 will carry the Snapdragon 865+.
Those were the highlights of last week. The full list of hot topics is below. See you next week!
