Tesla Berlin Gigafactory Opening Dancing Elon Musk
After an 8-month delay due to local authority licensing issues, Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory has finally opened its doors and Model Y production is well underway. The company invested over $5.5-billion USD in this factory and has hired more than 3,000 of the expected 12,000 workers. Elon Musk flew in personally to greet some of them as the first German-built Model Y rolled off the production line, with some dancing for good measure. Once all of the workers have been hired, Tesla expects to produce 500,000 vehicles annually, while also generating 50 gigawatt hours (GWh) of battery power. Eventually, the factory will be manufacturing 4680 battery cells, but the current Model Y vehicles are using the 2170 cells. Elon Musk hopes that Tesla’s electric vehicles, solar offerings, wind power and battery for energy storage can help solve climate change.
