Laser cutting, as the name suggests, is a technology that allows laser beams to cut different types of material with precision. It can also cut elements into desired shapes and can be used when engraving objects with less pressure to remove the upper layers. The history of laser cutting goes back to 1965 when an American company, Western Electric, built a machine to drill holes in diamond dies and the technology has been developed since.

Thanks to today’s advancements, the fastest laser engraving and cutting machine can now move at 170 in/s (432 cm/s) with 5g acceleration. And if that’s not enough, there’s also another laser cutter that can cut through 0.8-in (2-cm) acrylic in a single pass while engraving a 256-level grayscale image. Oh and have we mentioned fiber lasers? They consume less energy than CO2 laser cutters.

We’ll be bringing you more in our video above! You’ll witness how laser cutters work, as well as how diamonds, one of the hardest materials in the world, is cut. If you’re interested in this technology, make sure you watch it.
