Namco ‘Demakes’ Xbox 360 Pac-Man Game for the NES

Namco is releasing a new collection of retro games for the Switch next week in Japan. All the games are Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) titles, with one exception: There’s a bonus Xbox 360 game that’s been ported to the NES.

As The Verge reports, the Xbox 360 title in question is Pac-Man Championship Edition, which originally launched on Xbox Live Arcade back in June 2007. The game has since received several ports, and now this effort by Namco, which classes as a “demake” due to it being a modern title remade for a much older system. It differs from the original Pac-Man by introducing six modes, and regardless of the platform the game has been released on, received very favorable reviews.

The Namco Collection consists of the following 11 games:

They will be offered as a complete pack, but also a free app will be made available on the eShop where each games can be purchased separately. In order to unlock access to Pac-Man Championship Edition, at least 10 need to be purchased. It sounds like the complete pack is the better option as you ultimately get 12 games to play without having to go through individually purchasing them all. Regardless of the method used to buy the games, there’s going to be a range of display settings and save states included as has become the norm for retro game collections.

The collection is set to launch on June 18 in Japan, with the complete pack costing $25. It’s currently unknown how much the individual games will cost on the eShop. There’s no word yet on whether this collection will make it to the US and Europe.
