Technology Trends at CES Asia 2019
CES Asia 2019 is quickly approaching. We take a look at the emerging technologies that will take over the exhibition show next week in Shanghai. We are going to be at the show bringing you exclusive views from what is hot in technology today.
The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) has announced top trends expected at the upcoming CES Asia 2019. The show, now in its fifth year, is to be held in Shanghai, China on June 11 to 13 at the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC).
Technology trends that we already have anticipated for 2019 are going to be exhibited in Shanghai, giving attendees the opportunity to experience them first hand. Event goers can expect to see the latest advancements in 5G technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented and Virtual Reality, startups with a focus in innovation, and vehicle technology.
“CES Asia is the hub for transformative technologies that will fuel growth across the Asian marketplace,” said Karen Chupka, executive vice president, CES, CTA. “Attendees will see, touch, and experience AI advancements, 5G connectivity, the latest self-driving vehicles, and more. These innovations are changing the way we work and live.”
Emerging technology trends that you can expect to see at CES Asia include the following:
5G technologies
CES Asia will feature a series of new 5G hardware announcements from smartphones to 5G-enabled technologies across the entire show. The key exhibitor in this space is Chinese technology giant Huawei. 5G is driving innovation across all industries.
From Smart Cities to digital health or from factories to self-driving vehicles everything is going to be powered by 5G network technology. In China and all across Asia, infrastructure updates continue in anticipation of wide deployment of 5G.
5G is going to bring much faster speeds, larger data capacity, and lower latency.
Huawei Keynote, which is scheduled for June 11 at 9:30 AM, and Trends Reshaping the Future of Mobility and Connectivity on June 12 from 10:30 to 11:10 AM are the two conference sessions that will reveal the latest advancements in 5G and its applications.
Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Artificial Intelligence can take many names. When we talk about Machine Learning and object recognition we are talking about AI as well. AI is one of the most talked about technologies driving innovation and also one of the most controversial.
CES Asia is going to feature several of the global companies at the forefront of AI. In healthcare for instance, AI is being used for tasks such as reviewing cancer screenings, while in retail, consumers use facial recognition to pay for goods at unmanned, cashier-less stores such as the Amazon Stores.
Key exhibitors at CES Asia in the field of AI include iFLYTEK, Skyworth, Horizon Robotics, Nuralogix, Sogou, and Cheetah Mobile. A recommended conference session on AI is How AI Works with Datasets and Machine Learning, scheduled for Jun 12 from 10:45 to 11:30 AM.
Augmented Reality (AR) / Virtual Reality (VR)
At CES Asia this year, AR and VR companies are planning on showcasing new applications with the power to enhance the user experience. These applications create altered perceptions that are now being integrated into new areas such as retail, manufacturing, and healthcare.
Mobility and vehicle companies are using Augmented Reality to help drivers better anticipate road conditions. Retailers are implementing AR applications to help and assist shoppers.
Key exhibitors in this space include Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute, Johnson & Johnson, and Well Being Digital Limited. The conference session Advanced Technologies Enabling the Future Customer Experience is set for June 12 from 11:20 to 12:10 AM.
Vehicle Technology
If you are expecting to see a window into the future, the vehicle technology is your thing. CES Asia 2019 is expected to double its vehicle technology footprint on the show floor.
This year, the event is going to feature the latest concept cars and connected vehicles that will make you believe you are already living in the future.
You can expect announcements from the latest in autonomous driving to all-electric vehicles. China is the world’s largest market for self-driving vehicles This is evident as commercial deployment of self-driving vehicle fleets is gaining traction.
New forms of mobility and micromobility will drive innovation in urban transportation in Asia and around the global, as e-bikes and electric scooters gain larger prominence in some parts of the world.
Key exhibitors include manufacturers such as Nissan, Audi, Hyundai, Kia, OnStar, SAIC, FAW Hongqi, Great Wall Motor, Honda, Polestar, WM Motor, Mercedes-Benz, and Aiways. Don’t miss Hyundai Keynote on June 11 at 1:30 PM.
Startups from around the world
The startup ecosystem is exciting and full of energy. Startups work as many hours as it is needed expecting to see their ideas and ideals bloom like the most beautiful flowers in their garden of dreams. As a result of this bottomless energy, startups bring innovation and new possibilities to CES Asia.
Startup Park at CES Asia is expected to feature over 115 diverse startups that will debut their products on a global stage. Organizations from the United States, Europe, and Asia are bringing startups from their countries. Innovation Norway and AmCham from Singapore are two of the organizations bringing startups together to represent their countries.
Also, among others, 22 top Swiss startups focused on innovation and entrepreneurship will make up the Swiss Tech Pavilion. The startups cover everything, from a smart platform for agriculture to drones to Artificial Intelligence and robotics to Blockchain as well as Augmented Reality, health tech, IoT, and autonomous systems without forgetting sports and music.
Pretty much like all the startups, swissnex, the Swiss Unicorns, are going to be looking for new collaboration partners and funding opportunities as well as an opportunity to enhance their visibility in the Asian market and win the trust of global investors during an exclusive pitching event.
The Swiss startups won four top awards at CES Asia 2018. Most likely they expect to add some more this year.
Key startup exhibitors include CKGSB, Master of Entrepreneurship and Technology Innovation, Innovation Norway, Inno Park, Jikebaba, Microsoft, swissnex, and ZJ Venture Capital.
A recommended conference session: Tech4Good: Innovate Locally, Impact Globally which has been scheduled for June 12, from 2 to 5 PM.
