Cooler Master Launches Mouse Design Challenge for COVID-19 Relief

Cooler Master is taking a different approach to raising money for COVID-19 charities by encouraging the gaming community to design the color scheme for a gaming mouse they could eventually own.

The initiative is called the MM711 Design Challenge for COVID-19 Relief. Cooler Master explains, “With so much happening in the world right now, we wanted to help contribute in a meaningful way instead of just a new mouse drop. Enter the MM711 Design Challenge for COVID Relief, a collaborative effort to raise funds to help those who have been impacted by the pandemic.”

What Cooler Master is asking the more artistic among us to do, is come up with a color scheme that can be applied to the MM711 gaming mouse. Sketches and renders will be supplied showing the seven sections of the mouse (top honeycomb shell, side buttons, scroll wheel, left and right click, DPI button, inner body, and bottom base). Each section can only be one color and coating, with the available coating paints being matte, glossy, and metallic.

Once you’re happy with your design, submit it to Cooler Master who will then “select the top 5 legendary-class colorways” and allow everyone to vote for their favorite. The winning design will be used for a limited edition of the MM711 mouse, which will be made available to purchase. The winning designer will receive an additional reward in the form of Cooler Master products worth over $1,000.

If you don’t want to submit a design (or even if you do), Cooler Master is also asking everyone to make a $30 donation to a COVID-19 charity through a forthcoming Tiltify donation page. In return, you’ll receive a $30 discount off the limited edition MM711 when it becomes available. So instead of costing $60, the mouse will cost $30 and you’ve done a good deed with the donation.

The closing date for design submissions is May 8, with the public vote on the top five taking place between May 11-17. The winning design will be announced on May 18, after which you can make qualifying $30 donations until June 18 to receive the discount voucher. It’s unclear when the limited edition MM711 will be available to purchase, but hopefully not long after June 18.
